Prudence is what makes someone a great commodities trader - the capacity to face reality squarely in the eye without allowing emotion or ego to get in the way. It's what is needed by every quarterback or battlefield general.

When I was 15 years old, I read an article about Ivan Boesky, the well-known takeover trader - turned out years later it was all on inside information! But before that came to light, he was very successful, very flamboyant. And I thought, 'This is what I want to do.' So I'm 15 years old, I decide I'm going to Wall Street.

If you are a short-term trader you like to see some more gyrations. But certainly from a longer term perspective you want to see the market broaden out, have a very nice looking pattern to it technically so that you are not getting hurt too much in a market that's going to grind higher. It looks like that will continue. My theme is productivity. The Federal Reserve stated that that is a very important point in moving the economy forward. The Fed will allow a stronger growth rate as long as productivity gains remain strong. And I think that's going to be the case.

It all comes down to whether you're defined as a trader or an investor. There's so much misinformation out there on the distinction, because the IRS hasn't really issued definitive guidelines on it.

We'll see how much of a free trader

We found letters at the house we bought from a sailor to his wife who lived in the house. He went down to the Caribbean on this trader vessel, bringing down salted fish. The Shuttles were nice when we fist made them in 1981, but really they are now 25 years old. ... Who out there is driving 25 year old cars? These babies are classics with 100 millions miles on them. Its time to send The Shuttles to museums were they belong. I'm just glad the folks at Shuttle Trader Magazine are there to help NASA unload these turkeys.

A day trader could have a couple thousand trades while even a more typical investor could still have 20 to 40 trades during a year. If you have a bunch of trades, you'd end having to pay an outrageous tax preparation fee because there'd be so many trades that would have to be typed in.

Despite yesterday's broad advance, trader sentiment remains sober.

A lot of this is trader (driven). The gyrations are crazy but it's just sort of a typical reaction.
