Watercolor Quotations

Being creative is my idea of heaven. I'm just incredibly fortunate that I can do it in artwork. Watercolor is what I started out with. What I love about watercolor is that a lot of happy accidents occur.

There is always something to learn every time you paint. Watercolor is a series of techniques. You don't paint a leaf, you learn the technique of using water and paint to make a leaf. You learn how to make the paint and the water work together.

The American watercolor scene today is about innovation and energy.

When I travel, I always take my Winsor & Newton watercolor kit, which is the size of a pack of cigarettes when folded up. I bought my first one in the 1980s. It was handy to bring on trips, and I packed it into a leather pouch along with a couple of brushes, a pencil, an eraser and paper.

When I was nine, my great grandfather, a landscape painter, taught me to mix colors. With his strong hand surrounding my small one, he guided the brush until a calla lily appeared as if by magic on a page of textured watercolor paper.

The United States has the most energetic watercolor scene in the world.

We are very excited about this opportunity. The response from schools, community groups, and local artists has been extensive. Based on the interest we have received, outstanding student and community art will be displayed - including photographs; oil, watercolor and multimedia paintings; quilts; poetry and music - all with the theme of forests.

Deciding to pursue watercolor painting after I retired has made a considerable difference in my life. I find it challenging (which is good for me) and fun (which is also good for me). Having lessons with Odie McReynolds and getting involved with the Ground Floor Studio painting group was a good move. We support each other and critique each other's work - we constantly learn from each other. The individuals in the group are very different with very different painting styles but we have found that we are compatible. The love of creating is a great common bond.

I never really worked with watercolor very much. I messed with water-based paints in high school and stuff, and out of the Northwest that was a more acceptable tradition as a main voice, you know, with Graves and Toby.

If moisture gets in under the glass (covering), it can completely ruin the painting. They also do fade like a watercolor on paper.

They have oils and brushes and supplies. I'm sure if they do a watercolor course they would have supplies for that as well.

In addition to his works in watercolor and other mediums, Art has also been responsible for the design of stained-glass windows and tapestries for installation in various synagogues. His role will be to select which entry is named Best of Show and choose works that will receive various other awards.
