Pombo played a cynical game of bait-and-switch. He brought people in with false promises, announced the support of environmental groups to the nation, and then systematically stripped every protection clause from his bill.

Pombo's bill would rip the heart out of the Endangered Species Act. It would leave the act in tatters.

At a time when deformed frogs are being found in lakes and rivers across the nation, it is a dangerous travesty to exempt pesticides from environmental review.

That's a species that could go extinct because of this.

Illegal logging is driving dozens of birds and mammals to extinction. American corporations have the power to stop illegal logging by refusing to buy the wood; instead they are encouraging it. Shame on them.

The Forest Service has a theory that goshawks need forest openings to catch prey. Therefore they encourage mini clear cuts throughout the forest to provide openings.

The Endangered Species Act has been remarkably successful. Humpback whales, bald eagles, (and) brown pelicans ... are just a few of the species that are recovering quite nicely.

I'd go to a timber sale before it was cut and walk around, then I'd go back and see what happened to the beautiful forest, and it was completely trashed. All the big trees were cut and the ground was ripped up by tractors. It looked like a war zone.
