We have a gap right now with a lot of umpires with great experience and then a lot of young umpires. It would be nice to start filling that void in the middle. And we really encourage women to participate.

We are looking for people who can become role models and leaders. We want people who are teachable.

We pride ourselves in our training. We meet regularly and we bring umpires along at a pace that is best for their abilities.

It would help us tremendously to get those kinds of numbers.

I do it for the love of the game. Most of us do.

The issues umpires face are a little different than those of officials from other sports because of the time commitment. The logistics of it are very demanding for everyone involved.
