Richard Eugene Mandellais a Thoroughbred horse trainer and a member of the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame... (wikipedia)
Six weeks ago, he was ready to run. He's gotten tired of training; mentally, he's lost the edge.
He hasn't run in a long time and I've never run him before. I'm guessing he'd need to get a race in him to get on his best footing, but he's ready to get started.
He's a strange horse to get along with.
He might have been a little short of training because of what we did. I think the blinkers may have focused him a little better.
He looked so comfortable and (Victor) looked like he had a lot of horse.
I'm sick of him, ... I kept thinking he was not that good. He's pretty freaking good.
I thought he'd finish good and that would set him up for bigger stuff. He may be better now.
I wasn't too impressed. But he's worked really well since then and I think he'll run his 'A' race.
Everything's going great. He'll get a little longer one (workout) next week. We'll ship the 23rd, the way it looks now.
Dubai has succeeded in making the world smaller and racing bigger.
We were disappointed when he ran fourth that time. This is what we've been looking for.
That's kind of the short-range plan. We're going to get to the Breeders' Cup this year and not mess it up.
Nothing was wrong, he just was not running as well as last year.
It's time to get into the deep end of the pool, and Saturday it gets pretty deep. So we'll find out. It will tell us what we've got.
I just hope they (the owners) consider running him again next year,
He's very good right now, ... But I'm never comfortable. I'm only comfortable if I win. It's comfortable having a good horse. That helps. Helps a lot.
The frog started to loosen last week and shed during the gallop.
The frog started to loosen last week and shed during the gallop, ... the cushion between the two heels on the foot that is like a shock absorber. It?s the first thing that meets the ground.
It?s fairly minor, just at a bad time,
There's been a lot of nice colts like my own that show promise and are stepping up. It's time to get into the deep end of the pool, and I think Saturday it gets pretty deep.
We found this a few years later after we realized we didn't keep anything when he was around.
This was the big obstacleto get him back, make sure he ran the race that he did last winter here, and he did that, ... From here, Ill just train him like any other horse and come back a month from now in the Breeders Cup.
He's in good shape. We'll get ready here and then ship (to New York) about a week or so out.
He's never missed a beat, and he's done a terrific job since. ...Just a great guy: tough, gritty, determined to get things done.
