I think even the mayor will admit that the schools have been so neglected that we're really talking about peanuts in terms of making them look like we want to educate children.
I think you're going to see a more active council because of the election, and if the projects are worthwhile, they'll get passed. I just wish he had put affordable housing and schools at the top of his list. It's at the top of mine.
The problem is that the two sides didn't have enough sitting-down time to work out what are the needs of the charter schools and what space is open to them. If we have the Board of Education continuing to make decisions without the charter schools, this will continue to happen.
The bill is consistent with the priorities of the District of Columbia. People find the schools a complete embarrassment.
