I felt like I needed to (get more aggressive), ... I need to make these guys scared of my forehand, and that's what I tried to do today. I tried to serve with a little bit more authority and ended up hitting my second serves great.
I thought I played maybe better in the second and third sets than I did in the first set,
I was kind of playing catch-up there in the second set. But I actually feel I hit the ball better in the second set than the first.
Early on I felt he was hitting the ball a little cleaner than I was but I managed to sneak a break and once I got the break back in the second set I really started playing well.
Now I feel I can be a contender and when I'm looking into the grand slams it feels like I can compete all the way into the second Sunday.
Fernando came out playing lights-out in the first couple of sets, and I just stuck around and found a way. It was that one game when I broke in the second set. I made a couple good shots and it turned into a riot.
You're going to have two or three points per tiebreaker that's either going to go your way or it's not. It didn't go my way tonight. In the second tiebreaker, I don't think I played a bad point.
I let him get into a groove in the second set. He started getting confidence and swung from the hip. If I'd let it go any further in the third he would have gained a lot of confidence and momentum. He's an awkward player to compete against.
I had a really bad stretch in the second set. I was dumping balls at one point. He had momentum on his side at that point and I thought it would be a good time to try and change it at the beginning of the third set.
I'm doing OK I hope. I only felt it at about 5-all in the second set. He was already kicking my butt before that. I'm going to get it looked at and hopefully it will be ready for New York.
I have to be aggressive. I had to enforce myself on him and not give him as many chances. That's what gave me the break in the second set.
The was the slowest second serve I've hit since I was 12. I guess he wasn't expecting it.
It wasn't a whole lot of fun out there, ... I tried to at least hit a volley, make him work a little bit. And that started to work a little. His percentage dropped later, so I was getting a look at his second serve.
The first set went pretty routine. The second set it was closer, but in two of the service games that he held I think I had break points. I'm just happy to get through.
I come here wanting to win ... and I think it's great preparation for next week because you are getting into your routine so it becomes second nature.
