He developed a bond up there for a reason. Their fan base is the same as ours; they appreciate maximum effort, accountability, he's a genuine guy and he lights up a room. I look forward to our fan base developing the same bond he had with that fan base.
This guy has already been through the toughest baseball drama you can be part of. He lived through all of the extra scrutiny. He comes in here prepared for all of that.
Flash is a guy who knows a tremendous amount about the game and he has a way with people. I'd love to get him involved somehow.
I'm very proud of his accomplishments. For a guy that wasn't even expected to have an impact on this roster, to finish second ... it's a great accomplishment.
I want the Johnny Damon that is fun-loving, keeps people loose, is a positive-attitude guy both on and off the field, in the clubhouse, and when he shows up for work, he has an infectious impact on the other guys. I don't want him to tone that down at all. I want the real guy.
I know he's not an easy guy to track down in the winter.
It's too early in the process to say, but it's possible. I can't tell you if it's probable or not, because it's only Nov. 16. We have an in-house guy that is a fly-ball catcher at the very least. With the offensive lineup we have, we can afford that.
