We didn't play well. One of the referees said this was one of the ugliest games he's seen in quite some time. And I told him I agree, but I wanted it to look pretty for us at the end. Unfortunately it didn't.
(The win) was huge. You know going out on the road having lost two tough ones (if we lost this one) would not have been a good scenario for us. At least we know we can hang in games and win.
It was about time one of those went for us. We've lost a bunch of games on shots like that. Now, of late, we are winning them and things like that are going our way.
Do you judge me on three years of overachievement or 10 games of underachievement?
As a staff, you get to see how your guys handle playoff basketball, and I think it's easier to evaluate in playoff games what you need for the following year than it is in the 82-game regular season.
Notre Dame and Wisconsin were the two biggest games when I was in college,
It's been the story of our season that we're close enough but we just can't close games out. I told the guys they are playing hard and they just have to live with it.
The bottom line now is that every game is a must-win game the rest of the way. We're down four games to Philadelphia with 13 to play. It's not going to be easy, but it gives us something to chase after the rest of the season.
These last five or six games are tough, and like I told Danny (Ainge), I don't know what to do. But this is nothing I want to go through again. Me and Danny are on the same page about this, though. We have to keep teaching the young guys.
We just have to win. Bottom line, every game is a must-win for us, when you look at the percentages, being down four games with 13 to play.
