I am concerned by recent developments in Uganda and I have decided to cut 15 million pounds from our planned budget support this year and postpone a decision on whether to provide a further five million pounds until after the elections.

Our immediate contribution of 3 million pounds will help deliver food to those most in need. But on its own, this emergency response will not help people to escape from poverty and hunger.

The situation for many people forced from their homes by the conflict in northern Uganda is desperate. That's why I am reallocating GBP15 million to help the U.N. provide food and access to health care to those affected.
