(If) it is the little student organization that wants to bring a controversial speaker or show a controversial film, it could find itself being censored more quickly as a result of this ruling.
Ultimately I think it means very little for student publications that are outside of the 7th Circuit, but that said, I have no doubt that some school officials in other parts of the country are going to see this as a green light to begin censoring.
I've known Karen for 20 years, and if she believes this action was taken in an effort to limit her defense of a free student press, I'm inclined to believe her.
It's opportunistic. People see this as a way to go after stations that are of value and of use. In the process, student voices can be lost, and the entire society loses. From teen pregnancy to school testing, we understand our world better and our teenagers better when we hear them.
