We are very pleased to be able to lock up Nick Johnson, who we view as one of the core players who will take the Nationals to the next level. Nick is a complete player both offensively and defensively, and we appreciate his positive influence in the clubhouse. He is the type of player and person that the Washington Nationals are all about.

The thing about Nick is he is one of those guys who changes the defense. He needs to get healthy because he has the athletic ability to do anything that needs to be done. He is that kind of athlete.

The thinking in the back of our heads was we had other players scoring goals last year. It was a matter of whether they matured over that year, and whether that maturity would compensate or develop the type of attack Nick and Kevin provided us last year. I think those players are doing that.

I wanted a pseudonym partly because I'm quite shy and private. I know that sounds ludicrous, but if I should be lucky enough to make a hit, I wanted to be able to shrug off the mantel of Nick Harkaway when I got home.

Officials closed this fire just in the nick of time. This is an amazing fire. It is just burning and raging.
