He wants to be good and will do whatever it takes to be good. He wants to understand everything. He's got a great work ethic and a great understanding of football. He understood football when he got here.

He's demonstrated to me to have the best work ethic. He has the most passion of the next best tackle that I think we have on our team. He has the size, the strength and the athletic ability we're looking for. I just felt as we head into spring that he's going to line up there. It's based on what he's done and what other guys didn't do.

He's going to work real hard to try and get himself back for this season. It's unfortunate because he's a young man who was making some progress this spring.

He gutted it out, but there are a lot of things he has to work on. He has to learn not to hold the ball so long in certain situations.

I think coming out early like that, he has to really try and showcase himself, especially since he didn't get to go to the combines. He's got to make his mark out there with people watching him and maybe they'll work him out a little further.

I think it's working out very well. It's good because all five of those guys or all 15 of those guys are in the same room and they're hearing the same thing. Not that there was a problem, but I think those five always have to work together.

Everybody has to take a bit more pride and effort that the No. 1 job of the offensive line and running backs is pass protection. You don't want that quarterback to be touched. You have to work to do that. Regardless of how many first-year guys we have in the offensive line, they're playing and that's the job they're expected to do.

Dan made significant improvement from the time his second spring ended to the fall. We?re hoping we get the same thing with D.J. We know he?s going to work his tail off.

But I think the one thing is, they obviously made a good impression on those teams. They know there's nothing etched in granite, in stone, for them to be there. They're just going to work extremely hard.

It was a work ethic that we saw. And then we also saw a guy that was able to come in and contribute for us in different ways. You try to reward guys when they do that.

There?s a lot of work to do, no question, just like the other 116 Division I teams in the nation.
