He's a stud. He's picking right up where he left off last year. I don't know how he does it, but he does it. I just hope he keeps on doing it.
Joey D had a little rude awakening to the big leagues last year. But the kid has a lot of talent and a tremendous ceiling ahead of him. We're hopefully going to help him reach it the best we can. I know where I was right out of college, and I wasn't where he's at.
I was dealing with a lot of stuff last year. The contract, a new team, new teammates, a new organization, a new baby. This year, I feel more like I'm supposed to. I'm not worried about making a good first impression. I just want to come in and be myself.
I'm fine with it. I feel pretty healthy, ... I did it one time before during the year; I threw pretty well. I'm not worried about the physical limitations of coming back early. I feel strong. It's just a matter of going out and making adjustments from my last outing.
I want to lessen his workload this year, whether it's pitch opening day or work after him, so he doesn't have to do what he did last year. That's the main goal.
There was a lot of stuff going on for me last year. New team, the contract, new baby ... it was a whirlwind last year. Things really seem a lot more settled now.
