It is completely unrealistic to think that remote office operations are going to get rid of all the functions they run, no matter how appealing the concept. Microsoft plays a role at both ends of the WAN, so I like the Tacit Networks' implementation of providing Microsoft-based services locally while centralizing the data itself back at the corporate data center.

All the offerings share the common good of dramatically improving recovery point objectives vs. traditional nightly full or incremental backups. Continuous data protection vs. near-CDP might mean the difference between recovery points of 1 second or 1 hour. Either is much better than what we do today.
